Margaret's tapestry career began in 2010 when she did a short course at West Dean College to learn tapestry weaving. By mid-2015 she had been at West Dean for three years and gained her Master of Fine Arts in visual arts specialising in tapestry weaving. That year she gained funding from Qest (Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust) and having discussed with them the fact that tapestry weaving needed to be returned to its fine art roots she set about arranging bi-annual international tapestry exhibitions in the UK in 2015, 2017 and the third, Heallreaf 3 took place in 2019. In 2014 Margaret won the Valerie Power Award at West Dean College and in 2016 she won the Cordis Showcase Prize in Edinburgh. Margaret has exhibited internationally with work currently in the Artapestry5 exhibition touring Europe and she was invited to exhibit around the UK and Canada in 2019. Margaret's future plans for her work include building a coherent body of work for eventual solo exhibition. Due to the slow nature of tapestry weaving this may take some time. She has begun working on larger pieces and in diptychs. The themes of loss and destruction are a continual thread throughout Margaret's tapestries and whilst the beauty of the natural world is always inherent in the work there is also the hint of the loss; the darkness impending on our world and our lives.
