Rockpools, oil on canvas, 30 x 30cm

Maggie Cochran is a contemporary landscape painter with a fine art degree from the University of Chichester. She has always been drawn to the coastal landscape – that threshold between land and sea. Her work is inspired by the wild Cornish coast and by the Solent shores near where she lives. "I am essentially a landscape painter who likes to work in a slightly abstracted fashion while still retaining a sense of place. Capturing light and a sense of the fragility and transience of our natural landscape is important to me. I have come to realize that for me painting is all about capturing the moment and the feeling of being in the coastal landscape." When possible Maggie likes to paint en plein air, which gives an energy and immediacy to her work. Her landscapes capture a phenomenological sense of being in that landscape with the prevailing weather and light. Her work has been exhibited in Hampshire, West Sussex, Devon, Cornwall and London.
