Joanna Walter
Bright Room, acrylic on canvas, 76 x 76cm

Joanna Walter was brought up in Cumbria until she moved south to study fine Art at Newport College of Art. She settled in Bristol in the early '80s where she still lives and works. Painting and drawing have always been part of her life and she has had several successful joint shows in Cumbria and Bristol. Her recent work has focused on intimate interiors filled with light and still lives of flowers and domestic objects. The wild landscapes of her childhood still inspire her. “Painting is a physical and emotional process," she says. "It’s about learning and experimenting and mixing colours to find a way to express the life I see around me. It’s the way the paint lays onto the surface and the strength of the brushstroke – expansive or delicate – and how each colour resonates with the whole.”
