David Thomas ARSMA
Archie and Poppy, watercolour, 32 by 30cm

From an early age, David Thomas showed drawing ability. This was one reason for his decision to become an architect. Drawing and painting became lifelong hobbies and an early retirement gave him the opportunity to develop them seriously. In 2016 Search Press published his book Drawing and Painting Portraits in Watercolour. David's portraits have generally been commissions, often of children. He has run occasional workshops and given landscape and portrait demonstrations to local art societies. He is an elected Associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and in May 2022 will learn if he has been elected to the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. David currently runs a weekly watercolour course at the local village hall. Apart from architecture and painting, he has designed and made prototypes of various devices as diverse as an artist's folding easel, a walking frame and a print browser, with a view to production.
