Oxfordshire based William North is a self-taught artist working mainly in watercolour who has been painting full-time for nearly 30 years. "I find this medium ideal for depicting the flat and moody landscape around where I live at Otmoor in Oxfordshire," he says. "We have large expanses of skies that are reflected in the streams and regular flood water. I especially enjoy painting the sky and creating the feel of wind and weather. I like the colours of this marshy landscape best in winter when the harsh greens have drained away to leave the browns and ochres." He has exhibited at the Danish Club, Knightsbridge and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge, Martin Mere and Washington. William has completed commissions for the RSPB, which has a reserve on Otmoor. In 2012 his work "a simple painting of an old willow and gate on Otmoor" was accepted by The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours at the Mall Galleries for its 200th anniversary show. William had a commission to paint a view of Oxford for Oxford University Press to celebrate 50 years of its Hong Kong office. His paintings are in private collections around the world.
