Juliet Wood
Antony and Hazel Wood, 61 x 56cm

Juliet Wood studied at St Albans and the Slade schools of art, and in Italy. She taught in London and Wiltshire, and then as drawing tutor at Swindon School of Art for eighteen years where her strong commitment to life drawing led to a nation-wide portrait career. Her work is held in many public and private collections including the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Juliet also makes paintings and oil pastels from sketchbook drawings. She says, “ I like painting to be about humanity as well as aesthetics. Drawing directly from observation makes an immediate connection with a subject I can then develop into an expressive composition, often using many drawings, and exploring atmospheric colour.” Juliet has shown with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Contemporary Portrait Society, New Grafton Gallery and numerous other group shows, including with Slade contemporaries. Her long running series of paintings Alone and Together, Brunel’s People, toured through 2013 – 14, venues in Swindon and Southwark. 2016 and 17 saw solo shows in Swindon and Marlborough and also a demonstration portrait and article for The Artist magazine.
