Charlotte Moore
City Lights Tokyo, oil on wood, each piece approx 42 x 13 x 11 cm

Charlotte Moore's abiding interest throughout her career has been in art history and museums, such as the British Museum with its countless exhibits from every culture. The genre is still life in many forms - museum displays, Australian Aboriginal artefacts and predominantly references and details from famous paintings. She has long been interested in 'three dimensional' paintings, finding various ways such as 'pleating' the surface to reveal facets of the painting and by using painted wire mesh to build out from the picture plane suggesting stage sets. Over the last couple of years two trips to Japan have been a strong influence.  She has worked with city lights and signs of modern Japan and with traditional customs relating to religion and the natural world. Charlotte's work is mainly painting in oils and printmaking using etching and carborundum.
