Alison Orchard
Little by Little, 50 x 50cm , oil on panel

Alison first attended St. Ives School of Art as a teenager in 1986 and at the age of 18 won the Scott, Brownrigg & Turner Award for Art, which funded a painting trip around Europe. She studied Fine Art painting as well as Sculpture at A-level and continued her art education at Epsom School of Art & Design (Foundation Diploma) and Harrow College, University of Westminster (BA Hons). Alison enjoyed a successful career as a commercial illustrator and designer, working for several national newspapers and going on to run her own business. Throughout this time she continued to paint and draw and had her debut solo exhibition 'Arvor' at GalleryOne in 2009. Following this initial success, she has continued to exhibit and develop her work and in 2012, was selected for inclusion in 35th edition of Who's Who in Art. In 2014, she was one of 20 international artists to be chosen for accreditation as a Golden Artist Educator and in 2016 was the winner of The James Hockey Award for Painting. Alison paints direct from the landscape, both at home and on the Cornish Coast and develops her ideas and paintings in her Hampshire studio. She works in oil, acrylic and mixed media, enjoying pushing the limits of the painting. There is often a teasing interplay between sky and land, exploring ideas of nature, humility and overwhelming vastness. Alison's work has a growing following and is held in private collections. Her paintings have been shown at various prominent art fairs, with exhibitions in London and south east England, Guernsey and Portugal.
