Sheena Cooper
View over Grimspound, pastel

Sheena trained in Fine Art and Printmaking at the City and Guilds School of Art in London for four years, graduating in 1977. She has been working and teaching ever since, despite life having other plans. "In my making of the image I try to re-experience the moment I have seen and something of the acuteness of what I have felt," she says. "I use the language of marks, colours, forms, abstractions, mixed media and whatever it takes to draw the viewer into the experience with me. The landscapes I am drawn to are those in which there is the most powerful sense of antiquity (like Dartmoor where past and present meet) and which manifest the elemental forces that went into their making. My aim is to capture some sense of this, the animation of landscape and everything in it, to convey the feeling of it being alive and in flux."
